Biography

Stephanie Beck was born and grew up in Liechtenstein. She started studying the harp aged 8 with Annelies Brandstätter-Arnold at the Liechtenstein Music School. In 1999 she entered the Landeskonservatorium für Vorarlberg in Feldkirch, Austria where she studied with Nicoletta Alberti. She finished her diploma with distinction in March 2005. Having obtained an Entrance Scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music in London and recently finished her Masters Degree with distinction as a student of Skaila Kanga, she has then been awarded a Junior Fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music for the academic year 2007/2008. In Masterclasses she has appeared with teachers such as Isabelle Moretti, Marie-Claire Jamet, Isabelle Perrin, Chantal Mathieu, Elinor Bennet, Catrin Finch, Emmanuel Ceysson, Anne-Sophie Bertrand and Isabelle Marie. Her awards include – amongst several first prizes at competitions in Austria and Liechtenstein – a cultural award by the “Society Switzerland-Liechtenstein”, a 1st prize at the international competition “Giovani Talenti” in Italy, a music award by the “Theater am Kirchplatz” in Liechtenstein, a European award for young musicians by the European Foundation for Culture “Pro Europa” in the Culture- and Convention Centre Lucerne, a scholarship at the major Austrian music competition “Gradus ad parnassum”, a full grant towards her studies at the Royal Academy of Music by the Cultural Department of the Liechtenstein Government, a grant for her second year of studies in London by the MBF Foundation Liechtenstein and the Skaila Kanga prize for harp at the Royal Academy of Music. She has performed several solo recitals and has appeared in various chamber music groups with concerts in Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Austria and England. She has performed recitals in venues such as St. Martin-in-the-Fienlds, Colston Hall Bristol, the Royal Academy of Music London and the Theater am Kirchplatz in Schaan. As a soloist she has recently appeared with the Symphony Orchestra Liechtenstein and with the Modern Instrument Baroque Orchestra at the Royal Academy of Music. Her upcoming engagements include concerts at Wilton’s Music Hall London and the Mozartsaal of the Konzerthaus in Vienna. As an orchestral musician she has worked with the Symphony Orchestra Liechtenstein, the Symphony Orchestra Vorarlberg, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Pilsen, the Aurora Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and the World Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2001 she has won the audition for the “Wiener Jeunesse Orchester” (National Youth Orchestra of Austria), has been invited as a guest harpist to the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland, Spain and Australia, where she has worked with conductors such as Lawrence Foster, Herbert Böck, Garry Walker, Sian Edwards, Andrea Quinn and Gunther Schuller. Having won the audition for the European Union Youth Orchestra in February 2005 she has been on various tours with this orchestra under conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Bernard Haitink and Sir John Eliot Gardiner.
